We are currently recruiting for a Mechanical Bias Multi-Skilled Shift Engineer to join a rapidly growing, multi-site manufacturing business. With a projected turnover of over £40 million this year, this company is continuing to expand and invest in its engineering function to support increasing production demands.

This is a fantastic opportunity for a proactive and skilled engineer to play a key role in maintaining and improving production equipment, ensuring maximum uptime and operational efficiency across a modern manufacturing environment.

The Role

As a Multi-Skilled Shift Engineer, you’ll be responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, and improving a wide range of machinery and systems. You’ll work as part of a shift team, providing hands-on support and ensuring assets are operating at full capacity to meet production targets.

This role would suit someone with a strong mechanical bias, supported by solid electrical fault-finding skills, who enjoys working in a fast-paced production environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Carrying out planned preventative maintenance (PPM), as well as reactive and predictive maintenance
  • Diagnosing and repairing mechanical and electrical faults to minimise downtime
  • Conducting regular asset inspections to ensure safety and operational compliance
  • Providing rapid response to breakdowns and supporting production teams on shift
  • Working collaboratively with other engineers and departments to improve performance and reliability
  • Identifying and implementing cost-effective engineering solutions
  • Maintaining accurate maintenance records and supporting process improvements
  • Assisting with installation and commissioning of new equipment and upgrades
  • Ensuring all work is carried out in line with health, safety, and environmental standards

What my client is looking for:

  • Proven experience in a similar role within manufacturing, FMCG, or production environments
  • Strong mechanical engineering knowledge, with basic electrical competency (hydraulics, pneumatics, motors, pumps, sensors, conveyors, etc.)
  • Relevant engineering qualification (HNC/HND, NVQ Level 3, or equivalent)
  • A proactive approach with strong fault-finding and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
  • Good organisational skills with the ability to prioritise workloads
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to engage with stakeholders across the business

Package:

  • Salary: £56,500 per annum
  • Shift Pattern: 12-hour shifts (2 days, 2 nights, followed by 4 days off)

Benefits:

  • 22 days holiday + bank holidays (rising to 25 days with service)
  • Guaranteed Christmas & New Year shutdown
  • Pension (4% employer / 5% employee)
  • Free onsite parking
  • Onsite canteen
  • Comprehensive wellbeing platform (including GP access, discounts, and mental health support for you and your family)
  • Cycle to Work scheme
  • Company uniform provided
